Speak Life

Did you know the words you speak can have a major impact on your mind?

Hi GEM girls! The lingo of this generation can be very negative at times. Things such as "I'm dead", "I die a little bit inside", or using the "💀" emoji to mean laughter actually impacts our brains more than we think, even if we don't realize it. We have gotten so used to using negative and death-related terms in our daily life that it has become the new socially accepted reality when it shouldn't be.

The words which make up languages are neurocognitive tools by which we can:

· Transmit and exchange information

· Influence and control the behavior of others

· Establish and demonstrate social cohesion, and

· Imagine and create new ways of experiencing life.*

Our mind is more powerful than we think. The words we hear, think, and say are stored in our brains. Maybe not our conscious minds, but it is definitely filed away in our subconscious. That is why we should be careful about the things we are exposed to.

King Solomon knew a thing or two about the power of words. "Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones." Proverbs 16:24. "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." Proverbs 18:21.

Jesus also spoke to his followers about their words. " But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” Matthew 12:36-37.

So GEM girls, your words are very powerful. Use them to the best of your ability to speak life and happiness to others.
