We've all heard the story about the tortoise and the hare, right? The hare has a big ego and believes he can easily win. So what does he do? He takes a long nap during the middle of the race. However, while he's sleeping, the tortoise slowly walks past him and wins the race. The moral of the story is that you should keep a level head and not be prideful.
Hi girls! Back in the time of Paul, athletic races and Olympic feats were common things to see in Rome and Athens. Paul often used things and events he was used to, to convey a spiritual topic. In 1 Corinthians 9:24-26, Paul talks about the spiritual race we all have to run. "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air."
Just like the story of the tortoise and the hare, it is a we have to be consistent if we want to finish the race. Remember, it is the Christian who is steady and committed that will end up with the crown of life.
How will we be able to finish the race?
Keep a steady relationship with God
Start each day with God and end each day with Him
Pray
Read the Bible
Share God's Word with others
Join a Christian Youth Community that believes the same way you do (like GEM girls!)
Surround yourself with healthy Christian influences (i.e. music, friends, hobbies)
Keep a prayer journal
"I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift, or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise, wealth to the brilliant, or favor to the learned; but with time it happens to them all." Ecclesiastes 9:11
So, GEM girls, which of these tips are you planning to use in your own life? Let me know in the comments!
With Love,
Running the race is very important! I'm planning to use tips 1-7 in my life. Instead of tip 8, I have a guided daily devotional that includes prayer logs. 😊 Thanks Milana!
