Hi girls! My name is Milana and I'm so excited to be a GEM girls team member!
Do you have a favorite parable in the Bible? The parable of the sower is one of my favorite parables in the Bible. It is one of Jesus' most important parables. In fact Mark 4:13, Jesus says, "Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable?"
In the parable, seeds were thrown in almost every direction: on the road, on the rocks, in the thorns, and in good soil. The seeds that were thrown onto the rocky ground grew and sprouted. But when the sun came out, the plants dried up and shriveled away, because they had shallow roots.
I recently had a similar experience with this in my garden, except it ended a little differently. I had just finished planting a bed of Swiss chard. Unbeknownst to me, my packet of seeds had fallen over and a few of them disappeared into the gravel.
About a month later, the chard growing in the raised bed was doing wonderfully. As I was inspecting the area for obnoxious weeds, I noticed two small plants about the size of my hand growing in the gravel next to the raised bed. Curious, I squatted down and realized they were baby chard plants. I didn't understand how they were growing, because hardly any water was ever sprayed there, and the dirt beneath the gravel was not suitable for seedlings.
Three months later, the plants are now looking tall and healthy.
Now, back to the parable of the sower. In the parable's explanation, the seeds thrown on the rocky ground represent those who hear the word and receive it, but through trials and persecution, they lose their faith.
The chard in my garden shows that there is hope for everyone, even those who accept the faith and don't have a good foundation. With prayer and Bible reading, their spiritual roots can grow deeper and they will be able to successfully withstand trials.
"All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away." John 6:37.
Do any of you have a similar gardening experience? Let me know in the comments!
Have a blessed week!
With Love,
We have had some similar experiences in our garden except with cilantro. One year we let it go to flower and the seeds spread everywhere. Now it's growing in our rocks, and grass!
My favorite parable is the one with the talents because it reminds me that God gave all of us something and He'll help us cultivate our talents and use them for Him.
