Perfect Timing

Updated: Jun 18, 2023

Have you ever been so impatient for something it felt like you couldn't wait another second?

Hey GEM girls! I know I have felt like that many times in my life. Maybe you can relate to some of them. When we were little we got impatient on long car rides, constantly asking our parents, "Are we almost there yet?" My dad used to get so tired of me asking that he started to respond, "We'll get there when we get there! Try to practice patience, Emma!" But practicing patience was so incredibly hard.

As I got older, there started to be bigger things that I was impatient about. For as long as I could remember I had wanted my very own horse. I asked my parents over and over, "Can I pleeease get a horse? Please?" I would beg and beg but their answer was always, "Wait". The summer I was to turn sixteen my parents told me I could start looking for a horse. Finally after all these years of waiting I was to get my very own horse! I found the perfect one after some searching. He was two years old and a registered Quarter horse. He was a cute sorrel with a beautiful blaze on his face and one white sock. Convinced he was the one I asked my parents if we could buy him. To my great disappointment, they said that we couldn't afford him then because we needed to do some repairs on the car. I was devastated.

But the morning of my sixteenth birthday my parents gave me a huge bag. Inside was a canvas picture of Chance (as I named him), the horse that I wanted, and the papers for him. He was finally mine!! I cried tears of joy and danced around the room after hugging my parents. As I looked at the picture of my horse I realized that God's timing was so perfect. That day I was not only turning sixteen I was also making the public decision to give my life to Jesus. My horse was more than just a gift from my parents on my birthday, he was a gift from God.

I am still struggling to wait on God's timing in other areas of my life, like school and relationships, but I just want to encourage you all to trust God's timing in your life. He will never let an opportunity pass that was meant for you. He is guiding in your life in both the big and small things and He only asks one thing in return. For us to trust Him. Can we do that? Luke 11:13 reminds us, "If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

My very first relationship seemed like divine intervention in that of itself. Or at least a series of huge coincidences. It seemed like the perfectest of perfect timing. But now it’s over and I’m having trouble trusting in Him. Why even put us together if you’re just going to tear us apart? What was it for? Was I supposed to keep us together? What did I do wrong? Any thoughts?
