Judging Others

Have you ever heard the phrase 'Don't Judge a Book by its Cover'?

Hey GEM girls! Judging others before we meet them is something I think we often do without even thinking about it. I know I am guilty of making a negative opinion about someone before I actually meet and get to know them. Even after you have known someone for a while, you can judge them for their decisions without knowing the whole story.

In Matthew 7, Jesus talks about judging others. "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?" (Matthew 7:1-4)

The Pharisees who worked in and around the temple were big hypocrites. They claimed to uphold the law, yet they imposed even stricter laws on the common people. Jesus noticed this and called them out for their hypocrisy. There were many issues with the Pharisees. One was that they believed they were better than the Jewish people, and judged them for it.

But even today, we can still portray some of the judgmental traits that the Pharisees had. It is very difficult to go through life without making negative opinions of others. I've often had to remind myself not to make harsh judgments of someone before I know them properly. It is better to treat everyone with love and kindness no matter the situation.

Have you ever judged someone, or has someone ever judged you? How did the situation turn out?

XOXO,
