Dear God...

Are you real or fake?

Hey GEM girls! How well do you think you know your friends? 1-10? Are you able to tell if they’re having a good day or a bad day? Can you tell when they’re faking happiness? Do you ever put on a happy face even when you’re not happy?

You know, we actually do this with God. We pray prayers like “Dear God, thanks for this day, help me in school, and be with my family. In Jesus Name, Amen.” Now, that prayer isn’t bad, it just doesn’t have any depth. I was recently talking to a couple of my friends about being real with God. One of them said, “I talk to God like I talk to my dad. I’m respectful and polite. I thank Him for the stuff He gives me, ask Him to help me, and yeah. I don’t really show God the real me, I put on my “good kid” face when I talk to Him.” The other one said, “To me, God has been a nice idea. Not in a bad way, like I know He cares about me but it’s like I can’t really access Him. I’ve never really had a connection or relationship with God.”

Can you relate? This is coming from good Adventist kids that come from conservative homes and godly families. If you feel like what my friends said could be coming from you, don’t feel bad. God wants to meet us right where we are.

Last Sabbath, I was with these two friends, and we were all down in the dumps. We didn’t feel like we could be happy, and honestly, we didn’t want to be. We wanted to mope all day long and be grumpy. We talked to one of the staff at our school and He told us to just tell God how really felt. So, the three of us went, kneeled, and prayed real, raw, honest prayers. When we finished praying, we had peace. Real peace. It was amazing! Now the three of us meet every morning on the lawn outside of school for 15 minutes to pray. This morning another student joined us! God can do mighty things when we are honest with Him.

So what do you think? Does being honest with God seem like something you can do? Just try it out this week. Let me know how it goes in the comments below.☺️💕
