Have you ever looked at someone and wondered, “How are they so confident?” Confidence is something we all want, but how do we get it?
Hey GEM girls! Let’s start out by defining what having confidence actually means. Here is what Wikipedia says about the word confidence, "Confidence comes from a Latin word 'fidere' which means "to trust"; therefore, having self-confidence is having trust in one's self."
Have you noticed that it seems like some people are just born with natural confidence? They can walk up to anyone and strike up a conversation. Everything they do seems to bubble over with assurance. People with confidence are usually considered to be more attractive, and people just seem to want to be around them. So, how can we get it?
Let me tell you a little secret… the confidence we all want is actually pretty easy to get. It is not based on whether you are having a good or bad hair day or what clothes you are wearing. It comes from a knowledge of the value that Jesus has placed on us. If we are constantly aware of how we look in God’s eyes we can be confident because of who God says we are.
It might sound cliché to you. We’ve all heard people say, “God thinks you are beautiful just the way you are.” I used to struggle with that thought. It didn’t seem to help me in my struggles with finding my own confidence. The light bulb moment came when I realized that my value was defined by Jesus on the cross, and that is far above and beyond anything I ever thought I was worth. Each of us is worth so much that a King died for us, and not just any King, but the King of the Universe! Think about it! We are daughters of Christ, and our value is higher than all the gold, silver, and diamonds in the whole world!
With that knowledge, we can hold our heads high. We are royalty, girls, because of Jesus and what He has done for us. That is where real confidence comes from! It doesn’t go up and down with our feelings about our external appearance. It is grounded in something way more real.
Now every time you don’t feel confident because of how you see yourself in the mirror, look in God’s mirror instead. The reflection is always a daughter of the King wearing the crown He gave her...
"Blessed is the woman who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in Him. She shall be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit." Jeremiah 17:8 (paraphrased)
